La Coruña, Spain - 30 Mar 2002
My photo album of La Coruña

The Capital of La Coruña Province, Galicia, NW Spain. We berthed at Muelle Transatlanticos just before 8am. There were a few clouds about, but it was mainly sunny and warm for the day. La Coruña is part of the Galician High Estuaries (Rias Altas), and surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean. The tourist board have an excellent website, Turismo de La Coruña, with lots of information and maps, uncluding a lovely photo of the city from the air.

After a leisurely breakfast we set off exploring the city, and the 'Old City', past the Art Museum & hospital, eventually finding ourselves on the beach, Playa del Orzán, where we stayed for a while. There are some rocky outcrops and the Riazor stadium is at one end, aptly named Playa de Riazor.

There are many museums, and monuments to visit. It's a delightful city to just walk around, with its narrow streets and hidden squares, and ancient maritime connections. The Tower of Hercules, an ancient lighthouse built by the Romans and still in use, stands at the extreme end of the northern peninsula.

After lunch on Black Watch, we took the shuttle bus provided by a department store, no doubt to get us to spend money with them, into the main shopping area and wandered around for a couple of hours and used the free drink voucher we were also given. We did buy a couple of things, so I suppose their plan worked..

Back on board the weather was still warm, so time for a swim. Lovely views of the area, and lighthouse whilst leaving and sailing down the coast. Country & Western Night.
