Continuing
the guide to the Cunard Line heritage items aboard QE2:-
Upper
Deck:- The
centre piece of the Mauretania
Restaurant is an aluminium sculpture, designed by Althea
Wynne, depicting the 'white
horses' of the Atlantic Ocean.
There
is a model of the first Mauretania 1907 [scrapped 1935] which I seem
to have missed in my haste, and a large brass
plaque with fish motif at the entrance to the
restaurant, which was originally hung on the Mauretania.
The
port alleyway by the Theatre has 4 watercolours showing life onboard
in the 1940's. On the stbd alleyway hangs an oil painting of Cuba
[1864] by Samuel Walters, and another of a paddle steamer believed to
be Europa [1848]. |
